Can there be "Münchausen syndrome by proxy" in the workplace ? A micromanager flutters about, feigning "concern" but actually causing the problems.

Harvard Business Review, I think many people will be able to relate to this … Called “Munchausen at Work,” it describes a phenomenon Georgia Tech management professor Nathan Bennett noticed when studying team performance in more than 30 companies in different industries. He relates to the workplace the psychological disorder commonly known as Munchausen Syndrome by proxy, defined as “involves a caregiver who feigns or induces an illness in another person, usually to gain power and control over the victim as well as attention or sympathy from others.” Bennett notes that in our performance-driven, layoff-paranoid workplaces, where people are valued for solving problems and try to make themselves irreplaceable, “a similar pathology occurs….when employees create fictitious organizational problems, only to solve them.”

He gives the example of a manager in a Fortune 100 professional services firm that had a reputation for getting people to work together. To reaffirm that status, he’d purposely drive people apart only to bring them back together.

Bennett offers a few questions managers should ask to try to identify people afflicted with “MAW”:

>>Is the employee disproportionately involved in identifying and fighting fires?
>>Is the employee unusually resistant to offers of help in addressing problems he or she has identified?
>>Does the employee deflect management’s efforts to understand a problem’s underlying cause?
>>Are the facts and coworkers’ accounts at odds with the employee’s claims about a problem’s existence or severity?
>>Are problems with a project, a customer, or a process, or between colleagues, frequently resolved in the employee’s absence?

We’ve all heard of expandable phones right?

Panasonic KX-TS4100B 4-Line Integrated Phone System expandable up to 16 stations with Speakerphone

This is the phone i’m looking at amazon.com to buy for my business. My questions:

1. Expandable means that only the main unit needs to be connected to the wire and the rest of the phones would work just plugged in to the electricity, right?

2. If i get this phone, the other similar phones (shown at the middle of the page where it shows three images & add to cart) could be used as expanded stations?

3. My office is split in a 1st floor facility and basement, if i plug the wire in one phone on 1st floor, would the other unit work in the basement?

I have about twenty to thirty different numbers coming in each day on my phone. They will not leave messages. When I do a reverse look up in the usual sites, they aren’t listed. Does anyone know another way to get these numbers? I don’t answer my phone unless I know who’s calling. Even if I do pick up, I usually get an auto dialer, or someone who won’t talk to me, only my husband. Its very aggravating. Since they probably are from companies we’ve dealt with in the past, the do-not call list doesn’t apply.
I failed to mention- they are calling my personal cell phone.

ECA of any building in china or india also. If there are no ECA, maybe cost details of the building will help me.

Anyone know what the difference a business strategy, business plan, and business model? I havent really been able to figure out the difference.

I have the verizon phone company and im about to get my first phone, except i dont like the phones verizon has to offer. So i want to get an unlocked phone from a different company such as at&t or sprint on ebay or something, but then my brother tells me that not all phone companies will work for verizon due to sim cards or something. so which phone companies can i get them from?

I want to build a desk that’s a little different. It will stand in my hallway so rather than a boring computer desk I’ll like to convert something that looks visiually interesting into a fold out desk. A fun example I’ve seen are the piano desks at: www.pianodesk.com
Any suggestions welcome but space is a little tight so think small but large enough to house a PC.

This website http://www.phonestealth.com has no telephone number, fax or email. There is only a postal address given. There is an ICON at the website say they provide live support but it is always offline. How come VISA and Mastercard International allow this company use payment deduct facilities?

When you call into Verizon Wireless for a complaint, inquiry, plan change etc. The Representative will take notes about what your calling in for and alot of times read what past customer service reps have said as well. I am interested in getting a copy or even just having the rite to have a rep read me what t he notes currently say about me. Through the privacy policy I have seeing nothing about it.
