You’re not a computer tech, but I do repair computers. And I can tell you that any damage near the charging jack usually breaks the motherboard. And it normally doesn’t pay to replace the motherboard on a laptop unless it’s a high-end unit (the repair price, including a new motherboard, is usually more than a new laptop would cost.)
What probably happened is that the piece was hanging on by a thread and, as soon as they opened it (or even attempted to plug in a charger), it separated from the rest of the motherboard, and the laptop became a paper weight. You broke it. Moving it around as you brought it around for repair loosened the broken part. Their touching it just finished what you started.
They didn’t break your laptop.
The story doesn’t add up because the technicians probably broke your motherboard on purpose so the business could make more money off of your laptop. Maybe you should go directly to HP and get your laptop fixed there. With ‘Computer Clinics’, file a complaint to the owner. If that doesn’t work, go to the court.
