How can you port a land line number with only one provider?

I have a small business in a somewhat rural location. CenturyLink has been providing landline service and DSL service to me, but I am switching to an all digital system. The problem is, CenturyLink won’t just let me keep my original phone number and forward it to my new digital line number. Does anyone know if there is a way I can gain control of my original landline phone number and forward it my new number, or if there is any way what I want to do is possible?

the LNP questions should be discussed with your new provider, not the provider that currently has the phone number that you want to port…

talk to the company that is handling your digital line and see if they can port the number for you.
First and foremost, don’t disconnect your CenturyLink number until your digital phone is in. Look for a provider that has porting and ask them. That means no MagicJack or cheap companies and you may be out of luck if your dial tone provider doesn’t have lines in your town. You can usually check that out with your provider or find the data at http://www.nanpa.com It’s one of those deals where you look up your area code and start looking for switches with the same code as yours. Not a super easy task, but it is fairly easy to see the pattern. One of the most common VoIP providers is Level 3 which is usually serviced by Vonage, 8×8, Phone Power, and possibly even Ooma.
Good luck and next time post area code and exchange for faster service.

Why not consider having a virtual PBX system. This phone system is designed to provide features necessary for small business communication needs. It is so affordable due to the minimum hardware and software requirements of the system.
