I have a Motorola V190 and it is directly usb capable, and it is compatable with mp3′s and jpeg’s. I wanted to create a ringtone and a wallpaper and send it to my phone. If possible, how do I view the phone as a small hard drive? When I plug the phone to my system, WIndows Xp likes to think of the phone as a modem.

OOPS! Just kidding, this is a pretty comon problem. You need to get the proper drivers for your phone so it thinks of it as mass storage. Without knowing more details I cant get to specific. The drivers you need are on motorola’s website in the support page. Install them and it should work, if it doesnt please email me and I can walk you through some other things you may need to do.
hopefully you don’t have verizon. they love to hanicap their phones. of course that would normally be an easy, free thing to do but if it’s verizon they are going to make it so you have to pay something on vcast to buy it from them, or to transfer info from computer to phone. maybe if it’s not verizon then someone on here can help you out
Do you have Moto Tools(Motorola P.C Suite) with you?
Then it is easy.
Open the Moto Tools and you’ll see your phones picture on the screen with a side panel. the side panel contains several buttons like GPRS, Messaging, Phon-book, Multimedia etc.
Choose Multimedia.
Now you are ready to transfer files from computer to the mobile.
There will be options for music conversion, JPEG compression etc.
Use it wisely.
Although Windows will detect the phone, it just sees it as another modem. To actually connect with the phone’s memory, you need a copy of Motorola Phone Tools – Windows cannot detect the phone as a removable drive.
Here in the UK, it’s provided with the phone, but I’ve heard that it has to be purchased separately in the US – not good at $49.99.
There is good news – you can download it from a torrent site (such as http://www.mininova.org or http://www.meganova.org ) – you’ll need a torrent client to do so (there is a download link for these on both sites).
Good luck.
you need software
