I've had one for about a month now. I do have problems when I call my mom, who lives in a rural area served by a small telco. Sometimes she can't hear me, sometimes her Caller ID shows a random name/number which isn't mine. Sometimes it works fine. If she calls me there is no problem. I place calls and receive calls to and from everybody else with no issues at all. The $40 you pay for the Magic Jack does cover the first year of service. Installation is very simple if you can read. I bought a separate phone for magic jack only. i still haven't got brave enough to discontinue my other long distance service yet. the next usb port it burns out, i'll probably toss it. let's just say, it's still in the experimental stage. it’s ok but you have to be on the internet and have dsl or cable connection to use. it already broke one usb port and sometimes doesn’t connect on the first try. people can’t call you unless you’re on the internet so it’s best for calling out only.
