Wow, I’ve never heard of a phone system which didn’t allow two handsets to be used simultaneously.
I have the Panasonic KX-TG5576 base unit with answerer, and 3 of the KX-TGA552M handsets and they work great. Not only can all the handsets and base be used simultaneously, but they can also page and talk to each other to work as a wireless intercom system. (The handsets have a "conference" indicator which shows when more than one handset is in use, making eavesdropping a little more difficult.) Each handset can store its own favorite phone numbers, but it’s also easy to transmit one number or the whole list from one handset to another. You can also play back any recorded incoming messages on any handset.
The units I have are no longer current models, but I recommend you check out the Panasonic phones. They’re the best cordless phones I’ve ever used, and I went through a lot of them before finding this system.
You need a 2 line cordless phone. Most manufacturers have now released a DECT 2 line phone. In my view the best is the Panasonic KX-TG9392T. It’s expandable up to 6 handsets.
