Question About Dell replacing my computer?
Ok the computer is under three years old and my warranty is still good until august of 2010. I am starting my own business, and my boyfriend and I rely on this computer, and I have a possible big client coming up. He needs things done NOW, and this computer is totally screwed up..Heres what happend:
The computer is a Dimension 5150 E510 & was a gift because I was going to online school at the time for my senior year and my gram bought it for me.(Cost around 00 new) Its got Intel(R)
Pentium(R) D CPU 2.66GHz, 1.99 GB of RAM…..Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3…80GB hard drive… (Crappy)
It never did burn or read dvd’s although its supposed to (I called and asked)….Figured it was the DVD’s I was trying to use to burn things…
Then in February I got good DVD + R’s (expensive not cheap ones) and tried those. Same results. Then I had to re-install windows. Well it wasn’t reading any of the insallation discs, so I called Dell. This moron tech told me to sit at my computer and he’d talk me through it. I told him I was not comfortable doing this, and to talk to my boyfriend who’s excellent with computers. He refused to (I’ve had them talk to my BF before w/ no problems)..then told me (Who’s totally computer illiterate and I told him so) to delete something. Turns out it was the IDE Drives on it, and I couldn’t get them back. After 4 hours on the phone, another tech walked my boyfriend throug to re-install everything.
Well my computers been giving me problems since (Freezing, needing restarted all the time). I looked it up and deleting the IDE drives screw up your system. I was still not able to burn or read DVDS and I use them as storage for my business( w/ clients info contracts ect).
Called twice before the figured out that the partition for the DVD drive was permenantly deleted. Said i need new updated XP reinstallation discs and drive. Took them two weeks and one rescheduled tech appointment for the guy to come today to put in a new drive. well this one is doing the same thing. And my computer is acting worse now…freezing..had to be restarted 5 times in like 15 minutes for going to a black screen.
Called again screaming (I can’t lose this client coming up but cant start work w/o a reliable system). They put me on top priority for replacing my system. Turns out they said after two hours of arguing about NOT trusting a refurbished computer….they’d build me a "New" E510 and let me keep my hard drive, I’ll get a "NEW" tower with a new hard drive (160 GB most new desktops are standard with 300+ on their site), two dvd drives, and thats it.
I looked up their refurbished E510s (3 refurbs total) and they have one with a 150GB drive but all are "Scratch and Dent". (Visible dents, scratches, marks) I’m angry. This is not fair. This computer was purchased new and never could read DVD’s/Burn them…and they expect me to settle.
I got a CEO fax number for dell and found a litigator for them. I was thinking of calling them and telling them this is not acceptable considering this is going to take me another week to two weeks. I’ll have a junk computer and have to start with a new client w/in the next week. The refuse to send me a system that cost the same as mine did new.(Used it would cost me 0+ for the Tower, 0 for my monitor ect. ) they have a studio computer thats NOT much better than mine only smaller….Its cheaper than what mine cost brand new and what it would cost to replace the comp. if I bought used tower/monitor same as I have.
Should I file a report to their CEO office in America (I cant stand that outsourcing they over talk you and wont shut up or understand anything)….or take this new "scratch and dent" computer…
This has been on going for 3 months, dell caused my computer to fry after I had specifically asked them to let my boyfriend do this not me..(Deleting the IDE drives…again I know nothing more than how to use the computer and like word and photoshop.) This is techincally all dells fault. I told them not to talk to me in the first place. When my boyfriend heard me say "OK IDE Drives deleted…" He started screaming saying NO NO NO!!!! He is not computer illiterate like I happen to be..and he wouldn’t have done that..I was only following their orders.
what should I do call their CEO company (Ive read consumers get more help there if you have a escalated case) ….I just want a new computer of equalivent value…that WORKS and is not something someone returned for a problem.
I know they sell scratch and dent right after they get them. My boyfriends laptop’s motherboard fried out…tech fixed it hooked up wires wrong and it overheated to the point of starting a fire. They sent a new system. We need a report of tech fixes on the original laptop for personal reasons. And I finally found the old computer I couldn’t understand why they said the motherboard was fixed in january of 2009 when we got the new co

I you have a DELL, the only thing you need to do is:
1) Email any files you care about to yourself.
2) Turn off your computer. Disconnect your internet.
3) Hold down the CTRL button & start up your computer.
4) While holding down the CTRL button, tap the F11 button. You will be asked whether or not you want to RESTORE.
5) Select RESTORE.
6) Follow the prompts the computer gives you from there and your computer should be back to the way it was you bought it. You may have to reinstall MS Word in order to receive regular security/Windows updates. You’ll need to re-install your printer driver as well (disc or cpu can find one online).
The tech people from Dell are usually excellent. I don’t know who you talked to; I’m just telling you what the DELL techs told me when I wanted to RESTORE.
It’s the best way to clean malware and spyware from your computer and the best reason to buy a DELL computer..
