I work in a small office that’s growing. Right now, it’s just me and my boss and someone new that will be joining us soon. How do I set up call transfers/multi line phone systems for our office instead of hollering for my boss each time someone calls? We have 2 land line, one that is used primarily for fax machine and internet, and the other is the main line.
I’ve tried calling AT&T, our provider, to ask for help/instructions but had ended up banging my head against the wall many many times out of sheer frustration.
So my main questions are:
1) Do I need to get new phones for the entire office of the same brand? Or can we use our existing collection of phones which are of different brands?
2) The call transfer feature: do we have to call AT&T to get that started or is it something i need to set up with the phone on my end?
Best of all, I will really appreciate it if someone can write a dummy proof step by step instruction list. I’ve been wrestling with this problem for over a week and am near tears.

I want to get a cell phone with service from AT&T that I pay for myself. I have the money and a savings account in FL with Bank of America. I just need a way to pay bills electronically. Is there a way to do this that doesn’t require me to be 18? How?

Need to find office computers to run complex tax programs, work with PDFs and TIFFs, dual monitors (1 landscape, 1 portrait), and all of this on an existing network. No, we’re not looking for much, huh? We’re using a document management system (for tax), hence the working with scanners & PDFs. We need machines we will be able to depend on (won’t freeze due to graphics etc.) and will be able to rip through the tax programs with relative (as possible) ease. Right now we have some wankers with 512 MB, 1 and some 2GBs RAM, but most are Pentium 3s-4s. I’d rather we get beefier than we need than to come up short!! Also, I know we’ll need good graphics cards (soundcards not so important to us), but also the monitors (dual, 1 portrait and 1 landscape) are going to be important. We’re not yet ready to go Windows 7, as most of our software is not ready yet (software companies don’t have updates out yet). Don’t know if viable to upgrade existing computers—I’m guessing we may as well go new. What do you guys think? Ideas/thoughts appreciated! Many thanks.

I just got a 2 yr contract w/ Cingular(At&t) and have a new phone in my name. Problem is when I call a landline phone it has someone else name. I calld cingular and they said their systems are updated and show my name. They said to just erase all the memory off my called id.To me that doesnt make sense plus my phones have built in caller id.How would i get this fixed?

Companies are sending me unwanted faxes and are using up my ink & paper. The FCC site is too hard for me to navigate to find this list. Anyone know the exact address?

I’m told contractors doing work for the wireless telecom carriers, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile etc are not required to charge tax on the associated work. Is there something in the New York State tax code that states contractor work is tax-exempt when performed for telecommunications?

Well, my phone broke that I have from sprint, and my 2-year contract isn’t up yet, but i have this other old phone that my dad gave me. But it doesn’t have a sim card like at&t. So do any of you know how much it cost o switch phones?

My cell phone company (T-Mobile), has canceled my service every month since I got the service on June 6, 2008. Claiming they cannot see on their system where I made the payment for installation. I find it strange that the service was installed, I have the receipt showing the debit card transaction was authorized (from their very own office), the deduction was made from my bank account but yet I’m missing my June payment????
I have faxed the transaction receipt to the T-Mobile office, the bank has done the same. Now they tell me that my service will not restored because I cannot provide proof of payment. What the heck? The phone has been disconnected & reconnected every day since the beginning of this week. I am not only terribly annoyed, I am losing money for each day because contractors call us while in the field on the business cell.
Do I even have grounds for filing a suit and how do I go about it? I lost ,000.00 on a job that I was called to do but since my phone was off, I missed out and that’s a major blow especially in this economy. HELP….

I’d like to be able to connect to my wireless internet in my house (as opposed to having a data plan) with AT&T. What phones have this capability?
Thanks for the input. One clarification - I’m not looking for blackberries or the iPhone because I’m trying to avoid paying extra for a data plan. 80% of my life is spent around wireless networks - I’d rather just surf those for free rather than paying for a data plan.

I am assuming that plans have better service than pay as you go. I have used two different pay as you go phones (Tracfone and Virgin Mobile) and both of them don’t get the best service. They all had dead spots where others seemed got signals (they seem to have Verison or Cingular/AT&T). Am I correct in assuming that pay as you go services don’t have as good of coverage as plan services do, or am I just getting the wrong phones?

I really don’t think H&R is going to cut it, should I get a CPA or acountant?

I am trying to prove that I made a call from a pay phone in Berkeley. CA in early 2005. I have been told by someone at the phone company that if you use only coins, no phone card, that there is no record of outgoing phone calls from pay phones. (This is incredible–what if a terrorist makes calls with coins from a pay phone–no way to figure out who he called?) The pay phone I used is owned by Pacific Bell/SBC (now AT&T). It is a standard Elcotel Series-5 which has no recording capability. So if there is a record, it has to be in some part of the phone company’s data storage, right? The other end of the phone call was made to a phone at the City Manager’s office in the City of Berkeley, California. The phones in the CIty Manager’s office have Caller ID. Would there be a record of incoming calls? I have been falsely accused and this is my only proof (it has to exit somewhere!)

Yesterday my Vista Internet Security kept coming up with little ‘bubbles’ from the icon with titles like System Hijack! Tracking Software Found! and Security Threat!
But when I scanned my computer it listed about 25 files that were infected. I pressed the remove all button to remove the viruses, but it told me I had to download & purchase the full version!
So instead I re-downloaded my free AVG scanner and it detected a few viruses but nothing else. But my Vista Internet Security still continues to give me these warnings. I also had a blue screen yesterday which caused my laptop to switch itself off and restart. Thats when the warnings for this tracking software started.
How do I get rid of this virus without having to purchase any software?!
Additional Details: I have a Inspiron 1525.

I live in a big house (8000+ square feet) and I keep going through phone systems on average 6 months. I have gone through Motorola, VTech, and a couple others recently. The phones cannot seem to reach the home base from the upstairs. I have decided to get much more durable phones that have a full intercom system like at an office. I would need to buy roughly 10-15 phones for the system. It needs to work from the kitchen to 8000 feet away in the bedroom behind 2-3 walls. There are not phone jacks everywhere where there needs to be a phone, and that has been a problem. There are still many phone jacks. I do not know if this makes a difference, but there is no ethernet in my house, just Wi-Fi. I use AT&T home service and not an online service or Verizon. I want something not too expensive, but will last at least 5 years. I would also like to have the option of sending a message through the intercom to one person or a select group of persons. Thanks in advance!
