I am a business management major (I have a knack for planning, leading, and organizing, and I love being the boss!) but I am quit interested in film. I took a class in high school the focused on film-making and editing, and I loved it. I have a vision…I would love to direct, but how can I guide myself into the industry being a management major?

I do the books for a small heating and cooling business and I was wondering if QuickBooks Simple Start would be a good software choice. My boss asked my to look into it because he is self employed and to be honest very untidy when it comes to receipts, statements and what not. I’m wondering if having this would make it easier for him to stay organized and for me not to want to rip my hair out everytime I have to sort through the mess.

I had an interview at a movie theater in my area last Friday. The boss said he would give me a call the following Wednesday or Thursday, on whether i got the job or not. But unfortunately i still haven’t received a call back, and now it’s been exactly a week. So i was planning on calling them, but i don’t know what to ask them

My boss signed us up for a new business package from cox, this package is supposed to come with a pieceof hardware that we write each of the phones into and this will handle the switching.

I am to do the building writing for this, I know either way I can use cat5 cable to handle the 4 phone lines, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with this hardware or the phones that cox gives you with this package anf could tell me if they use 4 individual RJ11 connectors or if they accept one RJ45 connector for all of the lines

My laptop I use for my networking job was stolen from my home over the holiday and the thief seems to be using it. However, we are able to remote into the machine my boss told me. I’ve heard of the software called Prey used to find and track them down. I want to know can this software be remotely installed, so when the thieves turn on the machine it can be found?

Also, we MAC authenticated the machine for our networks, so I wonder if that will assist any. Can someone please tell me if any of this is possible. Thank you.

I have a HyperTerminal session open on a Cisco ASA. The events are continuously scrolling. None of the escape commands are working. I am also unable to type anything into the session. The boss does not want to reboot. Any suggestions on possible fixes?

I’ve passed the 1st round interview with Avaya for the internship positions, and days ago, I got a second round phone interview. It’s the HR department who conducted this interview rather than the headmaster himself. The HR did told me during the Interview that she can not make the decision, she has to check with her boss to detemine if they can offer me this chance! They will get back to me within a week!

So what is that supposed to mean? Does that mean that I am hopeless ?

Should I change jobs? I work as an insurance agent making only .80 after 10 years? My boss is cheap! We have 20 year old phone systems, broken office supplies, etc.. I could earn .75 starting out and in 3 years at a very reputable company. I think that’s pretty good money but I’m scared I will have a hard time learning something new after so many years. Also I work in an office with 2 other ladies (one of which is very attached to me). I think she might freak! How can I break the news to her gently?

I’m trying to upgrade my companies current phone system. We currently use an Avaya phone system, and Verizon as our service provider. What we’re looking to do is upgrade our conference capabilities. Right now we can only have two external parties connected unless we use a dial in number. Although the dial in number works my boss would prefer for us to be able to simply call people and add them to the call as needed, as well as let them call in when needed. In addition he would like to be able to transfer the call to a another phone if need be. For many reasons a VOIP system has been ruled out and is not an a option (although it seems like an easy solution, trust me I’ve been pushing for it). There has to be a non-VOIP phone system out there that can handle these simple tasks. Please help!

I worked for a company as a secretary for awhile. The company split because of money issues and the side I got put on didn’t have a paycheck system started since it was under a new name the day after. It took my boss about a month to setup a paycheck system and have enough money to put in the bank account. So he didn’t pay me for the first two weeks, which was going to be under the table. Finally he started paying me but not in full, so every week he would pay me some, but still owe me more. Eventually we started getting paychecks, but the business is starting to go down hill so… he closed the office and was having me work from his house so he didn’t have to pay rent at the old office. Since the phones had to get switched over from the office to his house, it took a few days and he told me to take the rest of the week off because I couldn’t do anything without the phones. He said he would call me when they were working. Its been two weeks now and he hasn’t called me. I’m ok with not working there anymore, but I’ve been trying to get ahold of him to pay me the moeny he owes me. He owes me 7 total. He owed me 5 from the money that he owed me under the table. Then he owed me that was supposed to be on the books, but he never called in my hours i’m sure because that was part of my job, except i haven’t worked. And on top of that, I had cashed a check at my bank and it was 7 and it bounced and came out of my savings account, plus a fee. I have tried multiple times to meet up with him and he keeps blowing me off or not showing up. He won’t answer his phone. Or call back. How do I get my money?! I know I can call the labor board, and there are other employees, old and new, that have had the same problem with him. I just am not sure if it is worth calling because most of the money he owes me was from under the table, but I don’t think its fair because I wasn’t the one to make the choice not to setup a paychecks account. And the money that was bounced from my account for his bad check… can I still get money for that? The only thing I’m sure of is the , but nothing even proves that I worked then since my hours were never called in. I am so frustrated. I am broke. And I really wanna see this guy go down! Help! Basically what I want to know is if I call the NYS board of labor, can I get money, even though I was supposed to be owed money that was under the table, bounced from my account because of his bad check, and money that I was on the books for but he never called my hours in…

She has started because I need help, and I will be going on maternity leave soon. 60% of this job is phone based, the other 20% is data input, the other 20% is helping the other girls.

Business is very slow this time of year. There is not much to do, but in September it will pick up dramatically. I showed her the tool that I use to help customers. Its very simple to use, and there is a manual. I showed her once, I showed her twice. I gave her examples that she could use to make up fake scenarios yesterday for practice. She came to me again this morning asking me to show her this stuff again. She did not do the examples that I gave her to do.

I basically said business is slow and to occupy herself. I also said that I can’t sit and watch everything she does in the system. I asked her to do it, then show me her work. It’s impossible to mess it up.

Was that a mean thing to say? I’m concerned about her complaining to the boss that I’m not helping her.
Oh BTW I taught myself how to do everything in our system. My boss didn’t show me. I learned by making up scenarios; like I told her to do!
