I’m losing my mind.

I will like to know my chances since I’m finishing my degree in business administration. I’ve never worked in an office before, but i’ve only done call center work and customer service on the phone. Do i need to finish school first in order to work as an admin or secretary in an office environment, or are there chances that I can do this now without any experience? I’m good with assisting customers and do have an advanced computer software knowledge, so I hope this can help.

While creating new Industries and innovative technologies may be a long term solution to systemic unemployment, they will take years to move from concept to development and finally deployment. Our existing workforce is not prepared to undertake radical changes in the life skills needed to succeed in these new high tech industries. The job mix in our current economy is weighted to the service sector by more than 80%. Within the call center sector alone we have lost more than 7 million jobs to india and the philippines and other low cost markets. While these jobs are not the highest paying and are certainly not glamorous, they are jobs that are easily learned and can absorb large numbers of workers right now. Why can’t we act to protect these jobs and reverse the migration of call center work back to the US. American consumers have a low tolerance for off shore customer service agents but businesses have been willing to use suppliers that pay their labor the equevelenbt of between .85 and .50 per hour. A few months back Senator Schumer tried to introduce legislation that would reverse this advantage by making companies that recieved taxpayer funds move these jobs back to the US. This initiative unfortunately went nowhere because the business community simply shifted the work to contractors and subcontractors thereby side stepping the issue. Working in a call center may not be the ideal job in the digital age but a highschool graduate can do the work right now. Someone disabled in the wars in Iraq and Afganistan can do the work right now and the skills learned in these positions, namely facility with computer systems and complex software applications are translatable to other more demanding careers. My company was founded on the idea that we can bring these jobs back from overseas by being more productive and effective in our systems and operations. But because we are not in a glamour industry, no one takes us seriously. In a recent report american students were ranked very poorly against their peers in many other countries. These are the workers that are out there in real life and they are the ones that need jobs now. Will the administration take any action to assist the American Call Center industry recapture any of the 7,000,000 jobs that have evaporated from the economy? A .00 – .00 an hour job can help a family stay afloat and build a work ethic where non existed. Look into the servicing and support functions of the big banks and if you take the time to follow the trail you will see what I mean. Or go on line and Google search India and Philippino call center jobs and all the information you need is right there. Exciting new technology is sexy but the electric car industry and the alternate energy industries will take a decade or more to grow 7,000,000 jobs. Can we afford to wait that long? We have over 100,000 troops returning from combat with no useable job skills. Some of them will use their GI benefits to gain the skills they need but many do not habe the temperment or ability to be engineers and scientists. We need practical solutions for them as well. Are you going to stand up and do something practiacal right now?

Which would you take while in school?

I got two job offers. Both starting today and i dont know which one to take, Its just a part-time while i finish up college. Which would you take?
JOB ONE.
1. Wage; 9.25hr
2. Location; approax 12miles from home
3. Job title; Appointment setter for Answer solutions (like a call center for a IT firm setting appointments for people that call in) ITS NOT TELEMARKETING.
4. The place has a overall laid back feel. My wedding is coming up and they had NO PROBLEM giving me Friday, Monday, and Tuesday off.
5. Hours; Mon-Friday 2-6pm.

Job TWO.
1. Wage; 8.25hour
2. Location; approax 5miles from home
3. Job Title; DressBarn employee..pretty much DO EVERYTHING within store, stocking, cashier cleaning, inventory. Also have to meet Sales qouta, sign 20ppl up weekly for credit card etc etc. She is ONLY willing to give me the day of my wedding off.. She seems rude in my opinion on alot of things.
4. Hours; VARY GREATLY can be anyday of the week Mon-Sun, any hours from open to close (this is not good for my schooling, and i also have a daughter).

Which one would you choose?

Conflict because, Job two would be willing to give me more hours if i needed, They also would give me some experience in sales (even though for my major i dont need that) I already have call center experience through AT&T, So thought i could expand my resume by having some sales experience as well. However i just want to make money have a set time.

Also i worry about JOB ONE letting people go.. they hired me and it took them a week to give me a start date… =/

It is way more technical than I thought a customer service role would entail for really low pay and no benefits, 6 months temporary status. We literally have over 24 software logins and programs to navigate and endless processes for various services and types of business customers. I want to quit before taking live calls – I don’t think I’m suited to such high-volume call center work and demanding schedules. I rather find a regular weekday-hours job, with benefits, as I have a 2-yr old son to care for. I live at home with family and have good savings.

Obviously, I’m looking for more jobs in different fields, when home. My question is ‘How do I leave this company, being on temporary status and not required to give notice, but want to leave with a professional sounding reason?’

AT&T Uverse Call Center?

I am looking to move to California in the next month. I currently work for AT&T in Cape Girardeau, MO in a call center. I am in Retention/Billing for landline/dsl and dryloop. I sale Uverse products primarly though. I am wanting to move to Northern California prefarably . And I was wanting to know if I could get the phone nubmer or email of a center out there so I can contact them. I am 3rd on the revenue chart in my center. I know what I am doing, I am already trained, and I am trained in all the AT&T software systems. My AHT (adherence) is usually about 94%. Anyone have any information that could help me out? Even if a call center is hiring. I would put in my resume and go through training again if need be.
