Is a business license or permit required?

Hi all,
My friend who lives overseas wants me to help him purchase goods (used phones, gaming systems etc.) and ship them to him. He will be paying me a monthly salary for my part. He wants me to open up a bank account so he can deposit money for me to help him purchase goods. The amount each month is in the 5 figures range. So my question is whether I need any sort of license or permit? I won’t be selling anything, just offering him a service where I purchase and ship his goods. If such a large amount of money is deposited each month, how would I go about with the IRS and taxes. I reside in California by the way. Thanks in advance for the help!

My friend and I are starting a small business.

I am going to be handling all the phone calls and such each day and the phone I will be using is currently my personal cellphone.

Is it possible for me to write off my bill each month and count it as a tax deduction or is this even a viable option?

I would appreciate any help on this because this is an entirely new venture for me.

Thank you all.
He is engaged and plans on getting married next year, so we have limited financial support. We are just trying to find every available option we have to reduce our expenditures and not get into trouble with the IRS; our knowledge in that area is SEVERELY lacking.

Im moving soon, and need to change all my mailing adress information for my business.
I live in illinois.
does anyone know thw IRS Phone number i would have to call??

thanks in advance for any help.

is so poor and unresponsive? I asked a question yesterday on why Turbo Tax Customer Support is so poor and unresponsive to it’s customer needs when it comes to their software, and it’s interface with the IRS, and this morning I received a notice from Yahoo that my question was deleted cause it didn’t conform to the community standards. I really don’t understand why Yahoo would delete it, nor do I understand why anyone would want it deleted. I just wrote and ask a simple question in regards if anyone else as dissatisfied as I am with Turbo Tax’s Customer Service, and although I will never recommend their software nor will I purchase their software again, would does anyone else feel the same?

I am trying to get through to the irs Account Management number 829-0922 and i keep getting a message about the call volume being to high and to call back tomorrow. Is this happening to anyone else?

I did both my taxes (married filing joint) and my mother in laws (head of household) taxes online with turbo tax / intuit software. We both opted to have our filing fees withheld from our refunds. She was due close to 00 and we were expecting about 00. Hers processed fine – it was accepted on the 19th of Jan. and she received her direct deposit on 1/29 by 6am. I filed mine on 1/21 and it was accepted on 1/22. As of last Wednesday, it said to expect my refund by 2/9 unless errors were found – we owe no back taxes and have already received our state refund. My mother in law owed 00 in taxes and her refund was not delayed at all. When I checked our refund status today on WMR it says to call the IRS and ask for extension 362, reference #1201. The SBBT website (who with holds the fee then deposits the return to our account) says they are expecting an ACH from the IRS on 2/5/10. I called the IRS and the agent said she didn’t know why the web site said that, she’s showing an approved / pending direct deposit to our account for 2/5…..has anyone else had this happen to them this year?? Should I call the IRS back and see if I get another answer from another agent? *lol*

error resolution department?

Error resolution department?
i did my tax on the 19th and my tax return was accepted on the 20th and i was suppose to have receive it today but nothing was in my account today. I then called the irs today to see when would i get my refund back because i couldn’t find any information online this nice young man told me he had to research my account and then when he got back on the phone he told me that it was in the error resolution department and the mailed out a letter to me on the 27th and he couldn’t tell me what was it in the error resolution department for and the letter will inform me to what’s going on I then asked him was it an error code to it and he told he doesn’t see and error code or anything so i am a little lost because i have never been through this before. Have anyone had this problem and if so what was the outcome.

I really don’t understand how could I have a error if i used a software this is my very first time and my last time using turbo tax. I thought using turbo tax was like tax act where they would let you know all the error before you was able to submit it. Is there anyone else having any issues that used turbo tax and if so please let me know what was your outcome. Please everyone leave all your input thank you so very much. I would like to know all the reason big or small as to why it would be in the error resolution department thank y’all so very much

I’m a bookkeeper for a small business. My boss originally hired me to just take reservations and do the bills, and sometimes order supplies for the business. But after a year… she’s been handing over her work to me and she pays me the same amount! I would do her payroll, personal finances, return her personal shopping items, buy her coffee, watch her kids, manage the business to see if there are any problems with the systems, return all her phone calls in her name(she is supposed to call them back..sometimes she asks me to make up excuses for her.), deal with the accountant re: Qtr/Pr/Property/IRS/etc…, and much more… All she does now is come in for like 3-5 hours and just sit there or walk around back and forth! I know it is my job…but it is irritating!

The business I used to work for went out of business, The location is now owned by a different company and there is no number for them to be reached at. ADP sent my W-2 forms to that address anyway and the store there now says that they have not received anything for my old company. So when I call the IRS on the 15th, how do they expect to get in touch with my old employer if there is no address or phone number that they can be contacted at?

Start up small online business help….????

I’m looking in to selling drop shipped merchandise on eBay, processing transaction through PayPal, and collecting a profit, then switching from eBay to eBay store then to eBay Proshops.
The problem is EBay has it’s fees, and does PayPal, and I use what "I" would call a drop ship hub, meaning there’s many different drop ship companies, but I only deal with one company, and they have membership fees + the suppliers drop ship fees.
Now all that is fine, but keeping up with those number can be stressful, and there’s allot of numbers flying back and forth, along with the fees there being a pre-sale retailer, I have to relay the cost of the merchandise back to the "HUB", plus the cost of my ISP, So do you know a effective way to keep up with these numbers, in the guides of a free or cheap accounting software?

Also any help with the tax laws governing this type of business (I live in Wisconsin), and what do i have to do to keep the IRS of my back?

Please do not direct me to a site
Please do not give me a site, unless it has software or a dummies guide to on there, other then that please if you can break what ever information down to me, if not Im not going to understand you. Also give me federal tax laws, and guidelines if you can
I want to be clear, as far as accounting software, I want something that will help break the process down allowing me to see my profit in the end, and all the fees taken before I make my profit.
The thing about the fees im not really worried about, all of those can be written off as a business expence, i can even buy a new Computer and deduct a part of my house utilized for my office, on the furinture that goes in it, so my main problem is keeping good records, now I know if i put my mind to it i may come up with something very complicated using the many tool microsoft offers, but thinking hurts, and take time.
