I am planning on majoring in Telecomm. in college this year but I am not 100% sure what types of jobs would be available with that major. I am really interested in working either in something involving movies or maybe radio. Is there maybe a list of specific jobs I could get with this major?
This is to answer MeMe. I love Miami…it is great here but the only problem is that it is pretty expensive. I want more house for my money…I don’t want to pay 00 a month for a nice apartment that in any other place it would cost 0. In Miami a nice big house (2,500 sq ft. 3/2) costs about 0,000… i know i can find a bigger one in NC or TX for half the price. That is why Miami sucks. Also, there are a lot of jobs in TX. Here in Miami, or Fort Lauderdale there is only Citrix, Burger King, and Nortel Networks, as the companies I would work for… and they are not even that big. In TX i know that they have over 50 Fortune 500 companies, in NC I know that IBM…Cisco…. and many big companies have offices. That is why i want to leave Miami…for a better future and more for my money.

My father is over 40 and works at a low paying, struggling job as a purchasing manager for a metal fabrication company for over 15+ years. On top of his Purchasing Manager duties he fixes all of the computer and network related issue for this 150+ employee company. He has worked on everything from legacy Nortel switches to Windows Vista machines. His drive and determination pushed me to work in the IT field and now I am where I am happy, how can I get him into the field.
My father spent over 13 years in the military as a Security Police and due to his job obligation did not finish a degree. So now 18+ years later he still does not have a degree and the time to focus the adequate time and energy to a Bachelor program. I have discussed certifications and Associate degree programs with him but right at this moment money would be a huge issue. On top of all of this he lives in a pretty rural area with a sparse amount of IT jobs already available.
My main question is: What can a man with 15+ years of computer support experience (within his company and on his own time) do to land him an entry level IT job.
I have a BA in Philosophy and have a background in theatre (but don’t want to do theatre professionally), confident and enjoy speaking with others face to face, and strong computer software skills as well as HTML and graphic design (all self taught, no formal education or experience). I’m moderately talented in most things and am a fast learner. A jack-of-all-trades to the T. I’m currently working for a health care staffing company making many phone calls daily to clear the applications of travel nurses and I hate it; I find it boring and simplistic. Administration is just not for me, neither is the staffing industry or health care. I know that I’m going to need to find a special niche profession to utilize my talents and feel motivated, any suggestions? A small hint: I find career counseling and event management interesting, and want other suggestions of jobs that are creative, personal and even avant garde.

OK…..Im 25 years old……I applied for a customer service job (GC Services) about three weeks ago. I have 7 years of customer service experience, not to include 2 years of sales and management, some computer software courses from college AND 6 years of military (NAVY), I have also put together for them, a nicely finished resume.
I called back recently to inquire the results of my app status and they replied back that "My app and resume is still in a "decision making" process and I will be notified as soon as that is done." OK….
Now this part REALLY pulled my hang nail!…..
I was talkin to my boys wife about jobs and she just HAPPENED to mention how her little brother (Just graduated from HIGH SCHOOL) landed a job at some place called GC SERVICES the first day he went in to submit his Application……..sooooo….ok…..
I wont go further but im sure some can understand my frustration, so of course, main question being…..WHY DIDNT I GET THE JOB? or Why did a child the first day of applying get the job over a well seasoned vet? or Why……blah blah blah! You get it though!
Anyone can answer this question (hopefully with knowledge) but this question is mainly for you HR know it alls and customer service junkies.
MAYBE someone from GC Services own HR can give me a strait up raw answer. Im a big boy i can take criticism, i just want to know what’s REALLY goin on!?
Ok…sorry i forgot to mention….Yes they still are hiring…in fact EVERYDAY because they are the largest firm here and no i didnt even get in to the interview process yet….but good answers so far though.
I am so frustrated that a person with Arts bacground has no prospect. Had I taken Sc./Commers, I would not have to come to such a position. Today, jobs mean management, software, IT, finance and such and such… plus to make matters worse, Govt. sectors are rapidly reducing. Only an idiot like me would take History and become a so-called educated… I am very upset with the policy of India Govt. and I want to get rid of this DANGEROUS country.. I am sorry to pass such a derogatory comment, but its a natural outburst of my resentment… Pliz help me out…..

I have about 7 years of call center/customer service experience and I’m burnt out from it. I want to do something totally different that doesn’t involve customers or the phone. And all I get offered are these type of jobs. Anyone have any advice?
