I am getting DNS Errors when my son is trying to use his computer. We have 3 computers set up via the wireless router. We use broadband internet via the BB modem connected into the router. The main computer is using a direct ethernet cable and the laptop uses a linksys wireless card. My sons computer uses a linksys wireless pci card and that is the one having the DNS issues. I have set up the tcp/ip connections with static ip’s because I kept getting a network ip address conflict when using automatic DHCP. My sons computer is able to establish a connection to the router, but no internet access is available. Does anyone know what is going on with my sons computer and what I could do to get it working correctly? Linksys site wasn’t any help. Thanks!

Basically what phone is the wifi itself and can allow a computer or laptop to connect to that wifi on the phone?

I just moved into an apartment complex, all i have now is my laptop and wireless router. When i turn it on i have connections to the apartment complex. It says i can push a button on my wireless router and it will connect, but what to i plug the wireless router into, or does it just set there? The phone jack?

Oh and i dont have internet, but at apts that provide it, you dont have to.

I’m having some very annoying problems with my new laptop. I bought it about a month and a half ago, and about a month ago the hard drive crashed and dell support agreed to replace it, giving me the windows 7, Roxio software, and DVD power discs and of course the new hard drive. The technician installed the new hard drive, and installed windows 7 for me, telling me that i could install the drivers myself with the drivers and utilities disk I already had. I was also told to re-download McAfee Platinum, my graphics driver, and Microsoft Office Home and Student online. My main problems now are the following:
McAfee keeps crashing and the Action Center tells me to turn it back on, which I do but it happens every few start-ups anyways. I did a full scan with McAfee several times but to no avail.
Drivers keep crashing, especially my wireless card. At one point I also had another 3 unknown driver problems as well. i had to use system restore every time, and it gets very tedious and nerve-racking. The fact that system restore seems to fix these problems make me think its not a virus, but a computer flaw.
The turning on of the computer is flawless, but at login it goes very slowly, and seems to be getting slower every start-up. This does not occur at when I login, log off, then log back in again, and I find this strange.
Turbo Boost for my i5-2410 crashed but for some reason I was able to turn it back on again.
In short, I almost expect a new problem every time I open my laptop, and its starting to make me anxious. I have thought of two main solutions:
Call Dell.Support again and demand a full replacement
Re-install windows 7 (will this remove all problems?)
Hopefully one of those works, if not any suggestion? Please, I’m all ears!!!
MTH, i’m a bit unsure of how to do that. do I just insert the disk and follow onscreen instructions or something? Also, will re-installing windows completely remove any previous files, programs, etc. in case it is a virus problem? Also, I have no special files i need to keep, so wiping my hard drive would be no problem.
PS: I’m new to computers so please make instructions thorough.

Carling, I’m actually seriously considering Linux, but I have a few questions: Do I need drivers, and can I run the following programs just as good as on windows: Itunes (with the store working of course), media go ("), DVD video soft, steam (a biggie, as i have bought several games already, and i love gaming on PC), any PC games ("), microsoft office home and student (I know about open office, but I already bought this. Yes I have hears of wine, but I also heard it was a bit buggy, and running two OSes at once could be a major slowdown, esp. when I’m playing Crysis! Thanks in advance

The linksys router is wrt54g. I pulled the internet cable out of the router a few weeks ago and put it directly into the computer, and have been using wired internet since. Now, I want to use my laptop in other parts of the house again, but I cannot connect to the internet. The computer can connect to the wireless itself, but the router is aparently not receiving the internet or not sending it to the computer.
The modem and cable are fine to my knowledge.

Alright, ive been having a problem with my wireless access point Router recently. I know it’s not my net because when I plugged in the LAN line directly into my laptop, it never fails.

However, when I use the wireless (which I have to so I can use the iPad) it drops after a couple minutes of use, then I have to restart the router again.

I have a Lucent Technologies WP-II E wireless router, and avaya wireless 11mb/s gold, world pc card. Recently, I switched the Pc card, and it worked the whole while, and then all of a sudden, the router starts to blink yellow lights which assume means fail. S I went back to the old card and now it just keeps failing again. Should I get a new router? Or is there a way to fix this. I have tried other wireless cards..

I have a dell latitude. When I bought my laptop, I didn’t want it to be bluetooth enabled. But now I do. Can I somehow make it bluetooth enabled without buying an external adapter? I would rather buy something internal if I have to. Thanks!

But my computer can’t access internet without the 3 g mobile network plugged into. But then my laptop won’t connect to it. So do I need a 3g mobile router and a wireless router usb adapter ( for computer ) ? Which would be the best to get and at which store best buy, kmart etc. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME !!

I have an iPhone that I’ve been trying to connect to my laptop so that I can put songs on my computer onto my iPod, but it says that my phone cannot be connected because the Apple Mobile Device is not set up. I’ve installed iTunes 3 times and I have an iTunes account and it still wont’ let me sync so I can add music. HELP!

i have just gotten cable vision internet service. i am going to get a wireless router. I will use it for my laptop. In addition I have heard that you can get Net Flix movies over the internet that use a special blu ray player or tv. Do i need an N rated router or more like a N+ or does it matter?

How do you connect it, so that you can use the headset while playing on live? My laptop connects me to xboxlive through an ethenet cable.

I have a USB Bluetooth adapter that I want to use to transfer files between my desktop, laptop, and cell phone. I lost the software disc that came with the adapter.

Are there any universal bluetooth interfaces that I can use?

I have a somewhat old Sony Vaio PCG-SR5K laptop and it has a pre-installed 56k modem in it. I’ve used it to get online in the past, but only on dial-up. Other than the fact that one is internal and the other operates through a pcmcia slot, is there a difference between the pre-installed modem I have and these PC Card Modems I keep hearing about? If so, what is the difference?

Also, which one of these modems could I use to get online with a cell phone and a data cable? Thanks to anyone who can help me.
Sorry. In regards to connecting with a cell phone, what I’m asking is can I use the modem that’s already in the laptop to connect to the internet with a cell phone? Or would I need to use another type?

I should probably also mention that I have a standard phone jack port on the laptop and not an ethernet port.

Hey I have an Advent 6552 Laptop on contract and I want to send files to my new LG Cookie Phone. I searched for bluetooth in start and it found Bluetooth Devices. Now on the front of my pc I have 3 icons (lighted blue) Power sign, battery and Bluetooth! Now the power is lighted blue but the bluetooth isnt so it must be switched off, anyways how do I turn it on?
