I am getting DNS Errors when my son is trying to use his computer. We have 3 computers set up via the wireless router. We use broadband internet via the BB modem connected into the router. The main computer is using a direct ethernet cable and the laptop uses a linksys wireless card. My sons computer uses a linksys wireless pci card and that is the one having the DNS issues. I have set up the tcp/ip connections with static ip’s because I kept getting a network ip address conflict when using automatic DHCP. My sons computer is able to establish a connection to the router, but no internet access is available. Does anyone know what is going on with my sons computer and what I could do to get it working correctly? Linksys site wasn’t any help. Thanks!

Can a router work also as a modem?
If so, does that applies to EVERY router?
For example, can the Netgear WPN824 router be used as a modem as well?

The linksys router is wrt54g. I pulled the internet cable out of the router a few weeks ago and put it directly into the computer, and have been using wired internet since. Now, I want to use my laptop in other parts of the house again, but I cannot connect to the internet. The computer can connect to the wireless itself, but the router is aparently not receiving the internet or not sending it to the computer.
The modem and cable are fine to my knowledge.

I’ve been connecting my Xbox 360 to the modem directly, but I always have to power cycle the modem after reconnecting the ethernet cable and my dad’s getting scared off messing up the power plug. If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate them. Please don’t suggest ‘get a router’ because I am going to get one soon, just not sure when.
And I really am trying to avoid spending more money than I already will be.
And I already leave the power cord plugged in, forgot to mention. Thanks for trying to help though.

I have 2 cable modems and I just purchased a new computer for the 2nd floor and when I tried connecting the 2nd computer upstairs to the 2nd modem the internet won’t work. The one downstairs is fine, it’s just the new computer with the extra modem that won’t connect. Any solutions on how I can get internet on the second computer?

So I’m shopping around for a birthday gift for my mother. She lives out in the boonies, and cable connection isn’t available. We were thinking DSL might be possible, but then someone reminded me about using a smart phone as a modem. I’ve looked at FAQs, and it seems that it can be done.
How good is it? And can anyone recommend a moderately priced smart phone with contract that could work well in that capacity?

I am just curious, what are the best brand for modems and routers. I have a Linksys router and Scientific Atlanta modem. They both work very well. Except for the modem maybe…. Anyways I am also curious to whether a cable amplifier will actually increase my internet speed. I heard that it does, so I am considering to get one soon depending on the response.

After moving my grandpa’s slightly older but underused Dell desktop, I need to purchase a wireless router to hook up the modem to my other Dell computer on the den floor to receive the internet through the wireless router to my bedroom on the second floors. Which wireless routers are best?

Ok I have an old G router that is not being used because we upgraded to N. My room is on the opposite side of the house from the modem and the N router. Is there anyway I can take the G router and hook it up in my room if there is no modem in the room. My bars are low in my room and I need to boost my connection for Xbox LIVE and video streaming and stuff. Any Ideas?

I don’t want to keep renting a modem from Comcast for the rest of my life, so I would like to buy one.
I’m wondering which cable modems will work best with Comcast service.
I would also like to have an 802.11 n wireless connection, and I want to know if there is a good modem with a wireless router, or if I should get a separate modem and router.
Thanks for the help!
