My internet provide has told me my Netgear N600 is acting as a "switch" verses a router. How do I change it back to a router?

I’m thinking about buying a seperate router for Xbox live since my other router is near my computer and there is no way to hide a cable because the bathroom is between the TV and the Computer. Anyways I was wondering if I did get a router would there be two prices one for xbox live, one for the regular tv use? Or would it all be in one price sent to a bill to my parents and not to me? I know this is confusing but I really don’t get it.

I need a new router because i had the same one for 4 years and its getting bad. I need some help on good routers that have good connections because my connection sucks at about 75% of the time. So any help would be appreciated so list your choices because i need a new good router.

Have a good day:)

Ok I have an old G router that is not being used because we upgraded to N. My room is on the opposite side of the house from the modem and the N router. Is there anyway I can take the G router and hook it up in my room if there is no modem in the room. My bars are low in my room and I need to boost my connection for Xbox LIVE and video streaming and stuff. Any Ideas?

I have connected a straight through cat5e cable directly from the router to my computer. The only way I know how to connect is through the web browser but if web access is disabled, then it wouldn’t work, Right? I ‘ve been an IT tech for 6 years and I do not know how to go around this without reseting the router. Please do not give me solutions involving the reset of the router.

I have a router and noticed my connection is slowed. I unplugged the router and reconnected my modem directly to the internet but I cant get connected. Only if I use my router, will I be able to connect to the internet but I dont want to use a router anymore. Anyways to help me out?

I got an Airport Extreme Router. I was thinking about moving the old router which is used for my voip phone to a different location. Could I use Power over Ethernet(Obviously one that is fast 200MB/S) succesfully with a voip phone?

I am soon to buy a router for my laptop because it is not compatible with my current router. When I was shopping online for routers I saw networking cards and they did same exact things like a router, but what is actually the difference?

My current router is a about 4 years old and I am in need of an upgrade. What would be the fastest router on that sort of a connection? I’m currently on Comcast Cable internet.

I want to network two computers together. (See my other question "Sharing DSL service?")

I want a good quality router that will perform well and give good security without paying an arm and leg.

I found a Refurbished CISCO1604-R for .00. Is this a good price?
Anybody have an opinion on this particular router or on D-Link, Linksys or Cisco routers?
Thanks.

If I can believe Cisco Linksys E4200 review, where can I buy E4200 best price online? Do you have any personal experience of using this router. I would like to buy this router after hearing from you?

Thanks in advance.

I have Bell Sympatico, my dad works for Bell Mobility so we get our DSL for dirt cheap. It’s a 3 or 4 MB connection, and during the morning and afternoon, and usually the evening it’s very fast and nice.

But virtually every single night around 9 p.m and onwards, it turns into complete garbage until after midnight. DSL isn’t affected by traffic like cable is, so it’s not a problem of too many people nearby using the internet at the same time. Also, it not only becomes dial-up speed, but disconnects frequently. I can’t even play games during this period because every 5-10 minutes I get a connection interrupted message and booted.

We contacted the company a few times and it’s useless, they refuse to believe that the problem is on their end, and it just gets answered at a call centre where the douchebags read solutions off of a list.

I’m just wondering, is there any chance that this is on our end? I am 99% that it isn’t, as my last computer was affected, as is my dad’s work laptop.
BUT, if I do join games during this time, my ping is what it’d be normally.

But browsing the net and such there is noticeable lag, not to mention the disconnects.
In response to Greg, this is happening every single night. We restart the modem and router once a week usually. It isn’t those. And if it were, it wouldn’t happen the same time every day and then go away, only to come back at the same time later.
Human Warrior: Trust me, I’m not that much of a noob haha. I can tell the difference between downloading and a faulty internet connection. Azureus is closed and hasn’t been running since I booted last.
My average download speed off of speed test is 4.3mb/s, right where it should be.

What kind of wireless router should I buy?

I here a lot of talk about the poor reliability of some routers. I am looking for one that won’t stop the connection mid-way (like my old one) and keep a solid connection. I am more interested in routers that you own or have experience with. I am planning to use my router for my PS3 (in case you need to know that).
