I want to buy a phone in the USA that I can use the 3g function in the Philippines. To use your laptop on the Smart Cell Phone System you need a phone that has 3g technology, and the phone will then be used as a modem for the laptop.
My question is what should I look for in a phone to buy in the USA before I go so that it will working in the Philippines?

Make sure you buy a phone that uses or supports GSM. Of the three largest cell providers in the US, only AT&T uses GSM – both Verizon and Sprint use CDMA, which is not used outside the US. Aside from that, make sure the phone offers or includes some type of PC connection hardware and software to allow it to be used as a 3G modem.
3g is the slower network your probably want something that will be using evdo. I know verizon and sprint offer phones that have the phone as modem feature, but they charge like 40 bucks a month. your looking at mostly smartphones that will be able to do this feature. if I were you I wouldnt pay the extra 40 bucks a month but buy this application called pdanet one time fee.
