How old this question makes me feel. The original voice modems were black boxes with a place to put an old style telephone. The voice modem intercepted the electronic squeal produced by the other computer and turned it into data on the computer monitor.
The voice modem you want is an internal device which can do the job. Most laptops already have them but desktops need one installed.
