why do we sound different on the phone recording system?

i did try with my friends. for example, it took me a while to recognise my friend’s voice.

you only sound different to yourself not anyone else try it out with your friends and you will see that i am right
your voice is being converted into digital data and then back into sound for one. also depends on quality of the microphone thats picking up your voice.
